2 hr reflection

2 Hour Self Assessment and Senior Project Reflection

Please answer the following questions and turn it in to your blog.
Due: The day after your two-hour presentation by 8:00 A.M.

PART I: Two-Hour Presentation
Two-Hour Presentation Student Assessment

(1) What assessment would you give yourself?

P

Why?
I presented my 3 answers did my activities. So I believe I effectively taught my answers and had a pretty successful 2 hour and should get a P.
(2) What is one thing you think you did well in the two-hour and why?
Teaching my answers and why they're important. I ran parts of the class like an actual guitar class while getting my point across as to why things are important.
PART II: Overall Senior Project Experience

(3) What do you think you did well on in the project?  What could you have done better?  Please explain.
The 2 hour and the 20 minute. Maybe focus more on the project as a whole instead of as parts but that was hard to do considering all the other work that went on this year.
(4) What is your EQ and what is the best answer to your EQ?
What is most important to teaching guitar? Having a love or passion for music.
(5) How has the last month of culminating events (e.g. I-Search, Two-Hour, Exit etc) affected your answer to your EQ?  Has it changed?  Why or why not?
No. It was just my guitar teacher who changed my mind the answer he gave me came from nowhere but made the most sense which was having a love or passion for music.
(6) What suggestions do you have in order to improve the senior project?
The only thing I can really think of is to take out all the other projects that we had this year and just focus on the 2 hour. For me anyway I felt like I was spread way to thin between the senior project and all the other class work to have done my absolute best.
(7) Overall Senior Project Assessment

P
Why?
I did it. I did all the research, all the presenting, and all the work behind everything so I feel I deserve a P.

I've went 36 times and done one and a half hours of service each time giving me a total of 54 hours. I helped teach a guitar class by watching the students play and correcting their mistakes, I also taught chords and songs.

I: I learned how to approach teaching guitar in two settings one in a structured environment where I followed a method book and another where I got to teach what I wanted which was a little more practical.

A: This helped me answer my EQ because I got to test out my answers and see if they really did either help people learn or if it changed the teaching style making it easier.

2 hour rough draft

So there's these questions

(1) What is your sponge activity?
I'm not to sure but I was thinking about having them listen to a song or two and see how they would go about teaching it but once again I'm not sure.
(2) What do you plan to do and say in the introduction?*
Hi guys my name is Garrett Cruz my EQ is What is most important to teaching guitar? and to me this means what are some aspects of the guitar someone should know before they get into teaching guitar. And I'm gonna go over those answers and talk about why I chose them and then do some activities.
(3) What do you plan to say in your foundation?
So I was gonna talk about my experiences with my senior project like my service learning and my independent task and how they influenced my answers.
(4) What will your 2 or 3 answers be for your 2 hour?
Fully understanding the guitar/being a music teacher not guitar teacher, Relating to your student, Having a passion for music.
(5) What activities will you do for each answer and why?
My first activity is more for understanding the guitar but I'm gonna have them build a guitar with misc. stuff (Understanding), the second will be having half the class go outside and half the class stay in and i will teach the inside class how to do something or have them come up with something to teach to the other half (Relating), and im not quite sure what ill do for the last answer.
(6) How do you plan to conclude your 2 hour?*
Give my best answer which is passion for music. I will give my 3 most meaningful sources which are service learning, independent task, and Tom Hess. My product is being able to learn better and progress faster as a guitarist. to conclude everything i will just recap my answers and how they've effected me.
(7) How do you plan to decorate the room?
I will have different guitar related posters and other music related stuff and maybe some pictures of bands.
(8) What supplies/resources will you need to make your 2 hour possible?
My guitar and maybe an amp other than that i dont think ill need much.

Independent Study 2

L: I Garrett Cruz affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of workI have practiced playing guitar and learning new techniques to broaden my teaching capabilities as well as taken lessons to better understand my own playing. As of recently I have also been working on a song to teach for my art project.

I: I have practiced and taken lessons for 30 hrs and have noticed my playing getting better. And through the lessons I am able to judge myself and make corrections when I mess up or struggle with something. As for writing the song I feel that I've put in a fair amount of work into it and have put even more work into teaching it.

A: Practice for me helps me get better at what I know and with new techniques or songs I learn. So by getting better it makes my teaching easier because I don't have to work so hard on trying to play something correctly because it's become less of an issue but rather I can focus more on my students playing it and progressing. Taking lessons has certainly helped because I can dissect what my mistakes are and can fix them. I can apply this technique to my students so they can do this with their playing when I'm not there. And writing the song helps because it allows me to judge both my playing/songwriting and my ability to teach it.

Independent Study 2

I was gonna practice some more and I'm also giving lessons so I don't know what that would count as. Well giving lessons would give me experience and see what works and practicing allows me to try different methods and see which would be good to teach and at which level.

L-I took 19.5 hours of lessons with Eugene Huang my guitar teacher

and I Practiced for 19 hours. I- This is 30 hours because I practiced and took over 30 hours of lessons. A- Well the lessons helped because I was learning with a guitar teacher and got to experience first hand what its like to have a good guitar teacher. Teacher Guide

Time

Introduction

Hey I'm Garrett and I will be teaching you guys about blues guitar today so before I begin can I just get some some people to list a few blues guitarists for me.
(Something along those lines)
Goal: 20 min

Three Important Sources

1. My guitar teacher

2. My service learning guy

3. A book that talks about blues guitarists

Verification

(Steps to check for student understanding)

Ok so since I'm gonna be talking about blues guitar or just the blues in general I will ask to see if they know any blues artists and why they think that the blues is so recognizable.

And at the end I will see if they can list the 12 bar blues that I went over.
2 min

Body

(Give and/or demonstrate necessary information)

Ok so I will go over the 12 bar blues and the chord progression that I've learned with it. I will also show a basic solo and go over other aspects of the blues guitar/ blues music in general.

  • Literal: Basic 12 bar blues
  • Interpretive: Being able to play with other musicians using the blues as a language
  • Applied: I really like the blues and want to be a blues guitarist someday

  • Literal: 5 min
  • Interp: 5 min
  • Applied: 1 min
Visuals I will have a poster board with diagrams on it.

Activity

(Describe the independent activity to reinforce this lesson)

  • What is the activity: Well since a lot of blues guitarists sing as well as play I will play a backing track and have the students try to make up lyrics and stay with the beat.
  • How it will be done: I will play the backing track and give the students some paper and have them try to write lyrics.

5 min

Materials I will need a stereo and probably some paper.

Conclusion

Exiting the stage is just as important as entering it! How will you depart the stage?

3.My literal was explaining what happens in the first lesson and my interpretative is why it happens.

4.Being able to explain things without the use a a proper prop and work with what I had.

Why did you choose this topic? Well I want to do it on this because it's something I'm interested in and what I hope to do later on in life.
